Oh, the memories. This photo of me was taken in Paris in 2001. I backpacked solo from London, England to Hanover, Germany. I remember it was a really nice day out and hot. I sat on my balcony at the tiny hotel I was staying at in Montmartre and played some old favorites and some new ones I was working at the time. I looked down after a while and there was actually people standing there and listening and in heavy Parisian accents yelling “keep playing!” So I stopped for a second, put my 35mm camera on timer and went back to playing. I just thought it was a moment that I would want to capture.

I think the idea of cliché gets in the way of what things really are, whether it is a piece of art, a song, a movie, or a lifestyle, thinking of it in terms of how much of a cliché it may be is seeing it through other people’s perception of it. How well or not-so-well received a thing is or how often it has been used should not govern your appreciation for a thing, whatever it may be.
